Lung radiography is one of the most common tests for acute respiratory infections to detect possible pneumonia. The disease can be caused by viruses, bacteria or fungi.
Depending on the general condition of the patient, the disease may be mild, but can also lead to a serious condition and the need for hospitalization. For this reason, timely diagnosis is essential.
The most common question from patients is “What is the dose of radiation?”. Fortunately, it is negligibly small.
Assoc. Prof. Desislava Kostova-Lefterova from the Alexandrovska Hospital in Sofia, determines the amount of radiation in the study of the lungs as follows:
“Lung radiography is equivalent to this radiation that a person receives naturally for 3 to 10 days from the natural background radiation.”
