Mammography is the most common method for diagnosing mammary glands. It is an X-ray of the mammary glands.
When is a mammogram performed?
The World Health Organization recommends an annual prophylactic mammogram in women over 40 years of age. In case of hereditary predisposition, prevention should start earlier. Screening is also performed in women who do not have visible changes and complaints related to the breast. Screening mammography can detect tumors that are not palpable (palpable) on physical examination.
Diagnostic mammography is also used in women who have breast symptoms such as:
- palpable formation (seal, lump)
- chest pain
- presence of secretion from the milk ducts
- skin changes in the nipple, areola or other areas of the breast
- redness, etc.
Early diagnosis is extremely important in the study of malignancies. The earlier breast cancer is detected and diagnosed, the greater the chance that it will be completely overcome. Digital mammography can detect finds of a few millimeters that can be operated on locally with minimal discomfort.
Why choose digital mammography?
Digital mammography has a number of advantages over the currently widely used conventional method:
- Several times lower radiation
- No pain or discomfort
- Extremely high image resolution
- Storage of research in a computer database – for easy comparison and sending to various specialists without the risk of loss or damage
- Study of women with breast implants
Why choose Center for Imaging Diagnostics MLADOST?
We have installed MAMMOMAT Fusion – the latest generation of digital mammography of the world leader in medical equipment – Siemens. The device introduces new standards regarding the accuracy of digital mammograms.
MAMMOMAT Fusion automatically and customized for each patient and each breast individually determines the lowest values of compression and X-ray radiation, which achieves a quality image. The device virtually eliminates the human factor in the selection of these parameters and puts an end to worries about pain or unnecessary radiation. Automatic algorithms and built-in sensors record the density and size of each breast with unattainable precision. This reduces to zero the need to repeat exposures due to incorrectly selected parameters. Thanks to the sensors for adaptive compression adjustment, as well as special exposure modes, the system allows the examination of patients with breast implants.
MAMMOMAT Fusion has the largest spatial range, which allows examination in a sitting position, which is especially important for patients with limited mobility.
Is it possible to do digital mammography with a referral from the National Health Insurance Fund?
Yes, the Center for Imaging Diagnostics MLADOST works for the Health Insurance Fund.
The referral for mammography is code 10.03. All women in the age group between 50 and 69 are entitled to a prophylactic mammography referral. It is issued by the GP once every two years.
A referral for mammography can also be issued by a specialist-thoracic surgeon or obstetrician-gynecologist in the presence of complaints.
